Bianca TP # 8- CIES

Today when I met with Ahmed he seemed nervous about his upcoming vocabulary test. His task was to focus on the pronunciation, spelling and using it in context or at least be able to recognized proper usage.

I approached this lesson by saying the word out loud so that he can hear it and then have him spell it out and then have him speak the sentence he thought of when I said the word.
His next concern was about the difference between san and sun. I assume this is associated with the similarities with this vowel in his native Arabic language.

Next we practiced minimal pairs with the [P and B] sound. i.e. pear and bear, pack and back, and bush and push. It worked for the most part but he quickly remembered all the words that I had preselected and used memory not new learning.

I see the progress in Ahmed and I hope he continues at CIES. I hope to continue to be his tutor as it would be an interesting experience to see him grow as a student.

  1. It is good you worked on minimal pairs. It would be interesting to assess him to see if he retained the information.
