Me and Rebecca met for the second time on March 17th from noon to 1pm (CIES lunch). This time, it was more smooth and less awkward than our initial meeting. She asked for help on a couple things. One of the first things she asked help with was an assignment from her speaking class. I wasn't familiar with the format of the assignment at all, but i've attached it to this post for reference:
It's a pronunciation sheet for long and short vowel sounds. I tabled that with her because I told her I hadn't seen materials like that. As the book said, when you encounter something you don't know how to do with a student, it's best to reassure them that you will research the problem, and get back to them with your answers. Afterwards, we worked on an assignment from her reading class. I made her read the article first to herself, then ask me any questions she was unfamiliar with. The questions were mostly recognition based questions. At first we had to redo her answers because I didn't realize they said "write in your own words", because I had her copying the words directly word-for-word!
About three times working on that assignment with Rebecca, we would encounter words that I didn't really know how to express in English, so we would continue to use Google Translate as a rough estimate of the French translation of the word.
