Katelyn TP #16

I had my last session with Jun last week. I am going to miss him! He was a great first tutee and I think we worked well together. He is actually going to be moving back to Korea in May, so maybe I will get to see him again. His mother asked me to continue to tutor him if I make it to Korea.

This session was a lot like our other ones. We worked on some papers he had gotten marked off on in class then read some of his books. Jun enjoyed writing his own stories when given the chance so we did a little free-writing exercise as well. I think children at this age really respond well to having some control over how they are learning. I know Jun enjoys being able to pick out which book he wants to read and choosing what he would like to write about.

Teaching Jun taught me a lot about how to work with children. The biggest obstacle I foresee is getting the children to focus and pay attention when they would rather not be. I know this is always a main hurdle to jump in the classroom - but I am glad I have had some experience, even with just one child, to see how I can control a classroom.
