TP #12 Jude

I met with Abdullah today before his lunch after his CIES classes at 12 o'clock. I am beginning to think that 12 o'clock is the best time to meet anyone at CIES, because the students are fresh from class and they all have to be back in an hour, so they are essentially wrangled into one place. We met outside CIES (where we met yesterday), and we decided that we would work on pronunciation and basic word phrases.

Abdullah is very interested in American and English slang words for certain things, which can really help, because if a student wants to learn something intrinsically, it is a lot more helpful than if they are simply being made to fill in a worksheet. Abdullah said his friend was going to come "greet" him in three minutes. I told him that unless his friend was only coming to say hello, than he wasn't "greeting" him, he was going to "meet" him, and that meet was the more appropriate word.

Adullah also said that he was going "to come to miami" for his CIES break. I could instantly tell that the syntax of this word was incorrect, so I told him he was "going to go to Miami." which was the more appropriate word. Perhaps the most comical thing that Abdullah likes to say is the word "Bro." Although I know that this is common American slang, I really haven't heard it used honestly outside of the New Jersey Shore. However, when Abdullah uses it, he uses it correctly, so we were able to come up with some sentence where the word "Bro" was used correctly.

"How you are doing Bro?" "What's happening Bro?" "Wanna get some food Bro?" I really enjoyed talking with abdullah about this odd word, and I think that he enjoys using it as well!
