Today we had to work on a project of hers in her speaking class. Rebecca was tasked with talking about her favorite hobby. I asked her to list the things she liked to do and initially I don't think she really grasped what a hobby was, because she answered with things like "sleeping, etc". Eventually I asked her if she played any sports, and she said she liked basketball.
So, we went about her assignment filling out the fields necessary for it. It mostly was who, when, where, why, what etc. We filled out each field and we eventually fixed all the grammar mistakes etc. The next day, we went over the speech portion of the project. I think to some extent her speech made me put into context that she was just a normal teenage girl from Burkina Faso before she moved over here and that it's a very brave and courageous thing for her to do to be going to CIES (and the United States), and from that it made me have more respect for her.
