I met with Jun today. As usual, we started the session with some homework and in class work Jun was having problems with. Similarly to last week, he is still getting marked off for not writing enough details in his answers.
It was Easter, and Jun wanted to write an Easter story. He got a piece of construction paper and titles it "Eggciting stories for Easter." I sort of chuckled and said that he had made a pun. I asked him if he knew how to spell exciting correctly and he said no. I showed him the correct spelling and tried to let him in on the joke - that he made a pun with egg for an Easter story without realizing he did. I think he understood. When he is doing free writing exercises I focus more on his fluency than accuracy. If he does make a spelling mistake I correct him, but for these exercises I want him to have fun.
We then spent the rest of our session reading from his Magic Treehouse book. Jun is a good reader, although he does get easily distracted. We meet over the weekend so I understand :)
Great pun! He's a natural punster!
