I met with Saoud briefly yesterday just to touch base before he goes back to Kuwait tomorrow (Thursday). By far, Saoud and I have had the best relationship than anyone I have met in the CP program, and I am really going to miss him when he goes back to Kuwait for two weeks.
Luckily, Saoud was able to attend the class that I taught with my girlfriend Katelyn, so we met after this at the CIES building. He was having some problems with the Bank of America because his mother was trying to transfer funds into his bank account, but there was some trouble with bank of America (go figure!) I already have enough problems working with bank accounts in America, I can't imagine having to work with banks in a country where I wasn't comfortable speaking and reading the language.
Saoud misses his family a lot. He lost his keys last week and called his mother in Kuwait. She told him, "since you lost the keys to your apartment, why don't you fly back to Kuwait where your mother is?" This story made me feel really warm, because it sounded exactly like something my Mom would say if I were locked out of my apartment in a foreign country. I am so happy to see Saoud go see his friends and family, but I am also so sad to see him go!
I wanted to meet with him one more time before he leaves, but he is very busy packing. No problem! I will try and see him when he comes back. I told him I had this app called Viber, where you can call and text people via a wireless internet connection free of charge, so I added him to my friends list. He told me he would pick up anything I needed from Kuwait as a gift, and asked me what I wanted. I told him nothing at first, but then I asked him for some figs (they are my favorite!) I told Saoud to tell his family I said hello, and I hope he has a safe trip back to Kuwait!
