Isaac CO#3

For my final classroom observation I had the opportunity to sit in on Caylyn Stringer's foundations reading class. Caylyn started the lesson with a beautiful mistake from the previous class. "I very miss you." She explained that very is an adjective, which describes a noun. She then explained that, the verb "to miss" needs an adverb to describe it. The in-class activity began with the reading of Tom Sawyer, the classic American novel. This material allowed for basic reading practice, and offered some American cultural history. I happened to sit in on the second to last day of class, so I could see the students were a little restless with their semester nearing the end.  Ms. Stringer did a good job of getting students off their cell phones and focussed on the material.  I took particular notice of Caylyn's tone, innotation, and rate of speech when engaging her students.  It was easy to see how much respect the students showed for Caylyn,  as she hardly had to repeat herself to get a quality response from her students. The next point of instruction Caylyn showed, was the difference in the ending sounds of the words "hug" and "Huck."  She explained the difference between voiced sounds and voiceless sounds, and had the students practice a couple times.  The class then continued with their reading and went over some vocabulary like scared and dare. After finishing chapter 9 in the book, Caylyn put on the movie version of Tom Sawyer.  She periodically stopped the video to go over new vocabulary; lost, treasure, and adopt.
