TP #8 April 3rd
Today Rebecca wanted me to check over a PowerPoint
presentation she had prepared for an in-class assignment in her speaking class.
The assignment was to get a buddy in the class, and ask them a serious of questions,
and then turn the answers into a short speech about them, which you would
present to the class in PowerPoint form. The questions were along these lines
“Where is he from”, “How many people are in his family?”, “What sports does he
play? etc”. So the majority of our time, I was editing her work and pointing
out the grammatical errors when I saw them. I think in this session I was good
especially at trying to communicate to her why an error was the way it
was, and not just expressing that there was one. It’s important to explain it
in the grammatical terms that they are used to. In the past with her I hadn’t
done that as much, and I realize now that that’s not a very helpful way to
tutor.
