I met with Abdullah yesterday in order to help him more with pronunciation, and also to help him practice a listening activity worksheet that he had not completed. We met in the courtyard at CIES after the group lesson that Katelyn and I gave, and he seemed to be very excited for this lesson, which was definitely nice (Abdullah isn't always in the learning mood.)
The listening exercise involved him interviewing me about different questions on a worksheet. Abdullah would read the worksheet, ask me certain questions, and then would write down the questions depending on what he heard. The questions were quite simple - "what are your favorite hobbies?" "where do you like to hang out with your friends?" and then he would have to listen for the answer.
Again, Abdullah is very skilled at listening and speaking to me in English, but when it comes to writing things down and spelling, he needs a lot of work. Actually, every single question that I gave him an answer to he was able to respond correctly. There was absolutely no confusion when it came to that, which was nice, but some basic words were misspelled, which is getting to be a larger issue. In future tutoring sessions, I hope to correct these problems as time goes on.
