TP #15 Jude

I met with Abdullah on Monday to continue our lessons until he has his test on the 26th. Because we had gone to Cafe Shisha the time before, we figured we would branch out and go to Aladdin's. Abdullah is actually friendly with the owners of both establishments, which is fine with me! It makes him feel a lot more comfortable and also lets him share some of his culture with me.

We got to Aladdins and I told him to order me whatever he thought was the best dish. He told me that the owner was Jordanian, and he made a really good Knafeh, which is a dish I have never encountered before in my life. He told me it was the only place to get Knafeh in Tallahassee, and I obliged.

It was a kind of cheese/noodle dish that was really sweet. I really enjoyed it and we started our lessons. Because Abdullah told me this was going to be a predominately listening and speaking test (or those were the sections he wanted to work on), he would speak to me about his life and I would correct his English. I think this is good for Abdullah because it is kind of therapeutic for him, and he can also work on his English as well.

We went over the basic speaking problems that Abdullah is encountering. His problems with the passive voice, and also his problems with subject verb agreement while he speaks. Although he generally gets these problems fixed, he still needs some help getting his skills perfectly honed.
