TP #11 Rick Shemanski

Today I met with Anton. We met at his place and he was very pleased to have a break from CIES. However it seems that Anton has really decided to step up his studying on his own. Since we found out that Anton would have to apply for FSU by this July, Anton must pass the TOFL by late June to have time to fill out an admissions application for FSU.  Anton said that he was been taking a lot of grammar quizes online and has been struggling with some aspects. Anton wanted to show me the grammar quiz and wanted to complete a quiz together. We started doing the quiz and soon realized it contained a wide variety of skill levels. Some questions were hard and others were very difficult. Anton did fairly well but often struggled with have and has usage. I tried to explain their usage by using a chart and sample sentences but Anton still seemed to be confused. I told him that I would do some research and prepare a in depth explanation for our next lesson. After completing the quiz, we moved on to a listening activity which I found online. A man had ordered a pizza and was dealing with the delivery man. I would pause the clip and ask Anton to explain what was happening in the scene. Anton seemed to understand but got confused about when the man was trying to "break change for a tip". I explained the idiom "breaking a 20", and reviewed that in USA it is customary to tip service workers.
