Sarah TP#11

I had a lot of fun tutoring PJ this week. We read The Three Little Aliens and The Big Bad Robot, a fun take on the classic three little pigs. I asked him a few schema building questions to start with---how many planets are there in our solar system, what are their names, what is the name of our galaxy, etc. It took him a few minutes to warm up to me, as usual, but soon he was talking non stop. I think my own enthusiasm piqued his excitement. I showed him the pin of Carl Sagan I keep on my bag and told him how cool I think space is. He demonstrated his spatial conceptions to me using his neighborhood as an analogy for space, which I thought was really clever. We read the book together, taking turns to read every other page, and then he drew his own "Big Bad Robot." We ended the session with a little vocabulary, most of which he knew. For the word dashboard, one of the few he didn't know, I drew a picture of him riding in Ms. Kim's car.
