On Sunday I had my first session with my third tutee, Ahlam,
who is from Saudi Arabia. For my first session with my other CIES tutee we just
got to know each other and figured out what she wanted to work on in our
sessions. However, after a couple of brief sentences about herself, Ahlam was
ready to get down to business. She brought a few assignments that she had
struggled with and we went over them one by one. After that, she informed me that she had to
give a powerpoint presentation on one of her hobbies on Monday. She already had
her presentation ready with what she wanted to say, I just helped her in
tweaking some of the sentence structure.
For the
rest of our session we worked on pronunciation. Ahlam had a video on her phone
of her teacher pronouncing different words according to the rules we discussed
in our last TEFL class, and she said she wanted me to do something similar. Ahlam
would pronounce groups of words with short or long vowel pronunciations and then
I would correct her if needed, and then she would repeat the word again after
that.
