Kala CP #1

My first conversation partner was Binshan, a Chinese student. We met at Atomic Coffee for our first session. After exchanging a few questions back and forth I learned that Binshan was studying communication at FSU, and had high aspirations for her future. Binshan's parents would rather she enter into a different career where she could make money comfortably, and take care of the house in her free time. Binshan described herself as an introverted person (at first she mistakenly used the word "integrated") who enjoys anime, manga, and drawing--but she also wants to "be the boss." I thought her confidence in saying so was pretty neat. I also liked that she slammed her fist on the table as she expressed this.

After Binshan mentioned that she enjoyed drawing, I took out a pad of paper and had us play a game where we drew each other without looking. The results were very Picasso-esque and we laughed pretty hard.

Binshan and I shared some opinions about Tallahassee and the folks who live near campus. She finds most of the crowd to be strange, and said that her friends have a hard time dating because of the communication barrier between English men and foreign women. She then mentioned that some of her friends get around the barrier by "baby-talking" with the English that they did know. Binshan did not approve of this method because she felt it wasn't true to herself. We decided that everyone has their own preferences.

We made plans to watch and discuss some anime during our next session. I'm excited for her to share some of her favorite animation with me.
