Kelly TP #11

During my tutoring session with my child tutee, Claire, we once again read a story and then wrote a few sentences about what happened in the story. For the previous books we read together, it seemed that Claire had read the books through at least once with her mom beforehand, so she didn’t struggle very much with pronunciation. However, it was obvious that Claire had not read through this book yet, and it was of a higher reading level. The story was about a ghost who was a reporter, a word that tripped Claire up several times. Other words such as “ghoul” and “through” were also a bit more challenging. After getting through the story, which took about 30 minutes, I had Claire write a couple of sentences to make sure she was able to comprehend it. She wrote about the basic plot line and some details of the story, and it was clear that she comprehended it, despite the number of challenging words. She then asked me to spend the night, which I had to politely refuse.
