Rick Shemanski CP#4

I met with my conversation partner Ahmed. I asked Ahmed how he was doing and he told me about his weekend. I also told Ahmed what I did over the weekend and I made some suggestions of activities to do in Tallahassee. Ahmed told me that he had exams this week, and was preparing for another exam tomorrow. He had to present a recipe to his class with step by step instructions. Ahmed made cookies and told me the ingredients he used and how he used them. Ahmed then started to form a script for his presentation. With my help Ahmed, wrote a script telling the class about his cookies and how he made them. We incorporated transition words like, first, next and then. Ahmed really seemed to get the hang of it, and made nearly zero errors when construction the last half of his script.

After writing a rough outline, Ahmed practice presenting the recipe. Although, Ahmed knew what to say, he struggled with pronunciation. For hard words we practiced pronunciation, and eventually Ahmed was able to clearly dictate his recipe. After working on his presentation, I told Ahmed about some basic American history. I told Ahmed about George Washington; that he was the first president and refused the position of king. I also told Ahmed about how Abe Lincoln freed the slaves. Ahmed brought up the topic of racism and I explained its meaning and eventually transitioned to cover Martin Luther King Jr. I should’ve provided Ahmed a worksheet with descriptions of these historical icons. I will look up one and provide it for our next session.
