TP#16 Rick Shemanski

I met with Diana for my last tutoring session. We met at CIES at 1:30. We decided to go inside to because it was raining out. I asked Diana where she is from and she had trouble understanding what I was saying. I soon realized that Diana is a lower level student. I was used to tutoring Anton and Jin, so it was a struggle for me to communicate with her. I asked Diana what she was learning in class at CIES, and she showed me a worksheet about simple present tense.

I did a quick search online, and I found some teaching material about the simple present tense. I explained to Diana when to use the simple present tense, and the differences between the present continuos tense. It was very hard to explain the rules for usage, so I just used example sentences to explain why the simple present tense is used. After reviewing the rules and information of simple present, we completed two quizzes about the simple present vs present continuos tense. Diana did surprisingly well and got 7 out of 10 questions correct. I told that I am graduation on Saturday and she congratulated me. In order to end the lesson on fun note, I presented with a listening activity about a girl asking her dad for permission to go on a date. Diana was able to answer all the questions about the listening activity, and was very confident leaving the lesson.
