Kelly TP #14

For this tutoring session with my child tutee, Claire, her mom requested that we work on defining and using nouns.  First, Claire read me a story about a truck. While the book was not very challenging for Claire and didn’t have many new words in it, she clearly enjoyed it.  I think it is important to sometimes just give tutees/ students a chance to remember why it is they are putting all this effort into mastering a language. In Claire’s case, reading opens up a whole other world for her, and she is always very excited and engaged while reading.  After that, we worked in Claire’s workbook on nouns.  First, I defined what a noun was: a part of speech that is a person, place, or thing. Then, I pointed out different objects/animals/people in Claire’s house and asked her if it was a noun (aka pointed to a lamp, pointed to a fish, pointed to Claire’s mom). Then we completed a worksheet where Claire had to fill in the blank with various nouns.
