Sarah TP#14

When I went to tutor Ali on Wednesday, he already had something in mind for us to work on. In his composition class that day, the students had been asked to read and summarize an article on the efficacy of certain tools and modes of language learning. Ali wanted to write about his own ideas on the subject. Before getting started we did some brainstorming. He told me that traveling to the states and living among native speakers has been most beneficial for his English language skills. I told him that this is called immersion. Next, he did something that no student before him has ever done--he argued for the merits of doing homework. The final point he wanted to make was on the importance of [international] friendship, to encourage meaningful and frequent use of one's second language. After threshing out his ideas, Ali wrote a five paragraph essay on the topic. His language always becomes a little more confused when penned, so we set aside plenty of time for correction. After editing his work together, we sent it to his new composition teacher for additional feedback.
