Jassass and I have spent a lot of time working on pronunciation and phonetics so for this lesson we decided to work on listening and writing. I prepared a video for Yassass to practice his listening. I showed him a segment from the popular Pixar film, Toy Story. I gave him a comprehension worksheet with basic questions, some contextual, some dialogue based. Prior to the video we went over some new vocabulary that Yassass would encounter and I asked him to keep the words in mind while watching the video and to look for contextual clues that would help him define the words. When Yassass watched the video for the first time I could see him struggling to keep up, and I realized that the dialogue may have been to fast for him to understand. So the second time around I stopped the video at the points where Yassass had comprehension questions, to make sure he was understanding the dialogue. We watched the video a third time and we went over the listed vocabulary. Yassass was able to use context to explain most of the words. He had never seen Toy Story before, so the concept of the movie was very strange to him, but nevertheless He focussed on his work and as always, was very engaged in the lesson.
