TP #14

I met with Koo at CIES in the lounge to start on the next vocabulary lesson in her workbook. We first started with Koo's questions. We talked about nose-in parking, how it's a rule in more strict parking lots so that if you are parked where you shouldn't be, you are able to be towed. Koo thought the sign only applied to the spot directly near it, but I explained to her that it is usually safer to apply the sign to the whole parking lot.

Koo told me she's been watching more television, specifically, E! News. She really likes hearing about current events, but likes more light and funny news as opposed to only frank and serious news. When she asked me for recommendations, I suggested The Today Show and The Colbert Report. We talked some about what kind of parody or satire was at play in each show. I hope they make her laugh.

When Koo goes shopping, she often wants to stop the employees in the store to ask them for assistance. We talked about how, formally, they are referred to as sales associates, but in-person, you'd just look at their name tag and call them by their name, Ma'am, or Sir. Koo told me that in Korea you'd usually call them by their title, "clerk" or what have you.

We worked on pronunciation more than comprehension on this day, practicing words with "au" sounds and relating them to "o" sounds. Here are some other words we worked on, the difficulties I noticed, and solutions we tried:

cause --> Koo pronounced the a + u sounds individually, I wrote out the word as "coz" and she was able to pronounce it.
result--> Koo had trouble transferring between the "r", "z", and "l" sounds. We took it slow and gradually pronounced the word more quickly.
