Sarah TP #12

Ali has decided that writing should be our main focus, so I've begun coming up with some more creative writing topics for our tutoring sessions. Last week, I asked Ali to write a "Thank you" note to someone at CIES. I thought this would offer some much needed variation from the structured five paragraph essay he always writes, and would be good practice for writing in a conversational rather than formal tone. He decided he'd like to compose an email to Ms. Ciapetta, his instructor in previous semesters, expressing his appreciation for her hard work as a teacher and the help that she has given him.
With a little help he wrote a beautiful letter. I'm always pleasantly surprised by Ali's sincerity. He thanked Felicia for her consistent feedback and error correction and the improvement she has fostered in his writing. He wrapped up the letter by congratulating her on her upcoming wedding and wishing her luck on completing her PhD. Before we sent the email off on its journey through cyberspace, I explained some of the conventions of letter-writing like letterheads, salutations and closings. He decided to conclude, Yours truly, Ali.
