Isaac TP 8

Khaled and I met in Starbucks at Strozier for our tutoring lesson. I had prepared material for him but he brought homework he wanted to go over first. We went over his homework, which was a reading comprehension assignment. Khaled moved through the assignment with ease. I then presented my material. I found a  worksheet of opposites, the exercise was matching. The worksheet was useful because there was both new and old vocabulary for Khaled to go over. I had some difficulty explaining easy and hard, as compared to soft and hard. I then realized that there are plenty of words that have more than one meaning in English, and those types of words can be very confusing for new English speakers, especially when context isn't explained. After the opposites worksheet we went over some reading and pronunciation. Khaled was showing fluency with reading but he had issues with the pronunciation of words expressing the long "a" sound and the short "e" sound. We worked on just the phonetics of the words, and I explained to him that with consistent practice he would improve his recognition of the sounds and his use of the words.
