Yesterday, Divino and I met very spontaneously, so that I
had not really prepared anything in particular. However, I remembered that I
had wanted to go over some adjectives with him. He tends to say something like “I
am exciting” when he wants to say “I am excited” for example. I reminded him
that adjectives ending in –ed are used to describe peoples feelings, and
adjectives that end in –ing are used to describe things and situations. Some
examples that came to mind were: “Divino, you must feel tired after working all
day. Working all day is tiring.” Or
“He was surprised to find out that he had been upgraded to first class. Because
being upgraded to first class is surprising.” The little exercise I had for him
included the following: “It was the most____________________film I have seen in
a while (excited or exciting).” “I think that too many rainy days in a row are
___________________(depressing / depressed).” Other than that were had good
conversations. We both were too tired to concentrate on grammar.
