Ben - CP #2

On Thursday I hung out with Jin at the ice cream social on Landis Green. It was nice to have the chance to talk to Jin about what his experience at FSU has been like thus far. He seems to be really enjoying himself a lot and he continues to express an interest in meeting a variety of people from all walks of life. At first Jin had planned on coming to the U.S. to learn English briefly and then return to South Korea after he gained a basic understanding. Now it seems that Jin wants to stay here for a while and develop a strong understanding of communicating and speaking English. He mentioned that his goal was to become as close to a native speaker as he possibly could.
We also talked on Thursday about the campus and FSU in general as a school. He said he's walked around campus a few times and thinks it is fantastic. Socially, Jin hasn't had much of a problem making friends. However, as I mentioned earlier, he is working to meet different kinds of friends. He said it is easy meeting other Korean people, and while he loves his Korean friends, he really wants to reach out to other groups of people. I'm going to try to find an event or a function that Jin and I could go to where he could meet a lot of people. I'm thinking we can go see a play sometime soon and I can introduce Jin to the theatre community.
Of course we had to talk briefly about the magic of ice cream and how incredible it is. That got us into a brief discussion of food. I told Jin I absolutely love Korean food, especially Korean barbecue. Perhaps we will be able to go to the Korean barbecue that we have here it Tallahassee. I mentioned a few restaurants in Tallahassee that I really have loved going to over my four years here and Jin said he's going to try to go to as many as possible while he is here. Jin and I had a great time hanging out, I'm looking forward to our next meeting. I'm thinking we can maybe do something sports-related because we are both very into sports.
