On our third meeting, its as though we have been friends for years. it had been about a week since we last spoke so we caught up on our lives and our current studies. i asked her how her classes at CIES were going and she said good and then politely asked me to go over her recently graded essay.
I quickly scanned the essay and read the teachers remarks on her common grammatical errors. while they were small and very few her common error was inserting and using the articles: in,to,at, etc.
her speaking proficiency has definitely improved in the past 4 weeks that we have been meeting. i helped her with her paper resubmission and tried to explain her errors in a fashion that she would be able to understand.
also, when Mahsa sends me a text message and there are grammatical errors i do my best to re-type it for her using the correct forms. she usually answers back very graciously.
she never ceases to surprise me with her english skills. she seems very dedicated to learning english and pursuing her career goals of getting accepted to FSU interior design school and then going back to Iran and working for her government. she says that with a degree from both the US and Iran she will be able to get a higher paying job in her country that will allow her have financial freedom.
