Last Sunday, Divino and I went over “if-clauses”. He really
likes to write essays, and I provide him with all kinds of topics. However, he
does not always have the time to write a draft from one meeting to the next,
let alone to finish a story, because he works a lot (which is usually a good
thing, of course, because he needs the money). Therefore, I always have little
grammar lessons prepared, actually based on mistakes we picked out of his essay
creations from past sessions. Again, he really likes to write and to read but
sometimes it is very difficult for him; he is a construction worker and
occasionally he has to travel for the job. On these trips, when he shares a mobile
home with the other guys, he does not really dare to get his book or laptop out
of his bag to read or write, while his buddies play video games or watch TV. He
told me, that, because of his English studies and the paying attention to
grammar, he tends to correct his buddies’ or co-workers (oral) English, things
they say “incorrectly”. “But I don’t,” he says laughing, “of course not. I am
already quite a nerd among them!”
