KyungAh CO#3

After I observed Mr. Soheil's class on Wednesday, I went to go observe a class taught by Dr. Mendoza from 5pm to 6:30pm. This class was a class comprised of international teaching assistants who are wanting to be T.As at Florida State University. In order for them to be an instructor, they have to take classes on teaching and language. Because of this fact, the students in the class were a little bit older and so, I noticed when Dr. Mendoza would call on them, she would say "Mr." or "Ms./ Mrs." I thought that was pretty interesting because it felt very formal, rather than teacher/student relationship. The class today was on reviewing processes and using transitional words. They had many student led work and also, at the end of the class, they had time to start brainstorming and working on their lesson plans for the next class. They did activities, during class, on using transitional words and when to use active, passive, and command voice. Dr. Mendoza came to me and told me that since they will be doing a lot of individual work, since they have to present these lessons next week and be video taped, I can leave a little earlier if I'd like to. She said after she gets finished with whole group instruction and they've done their partner exercises, it will be more one-to-one interaction between her and the student while others work individually on their own lesson plan. I thought that was nice of her to tell me because then I would have just sat there, waiting.
