KyungAh TP#5

I met with my CIES tutee on Wednesday at 4:30pm at the Starbucks on Tennessee street. We usually meet at the Strozier library, but since it was FSU Spring Break, I figured the library would be closed/closing early. I had told him to bring his CIES books to see the general area of what he was studying and to see what level he was on. When he came to Starbucks, he had brought his books and had told me that he had three quizzes tomorrow. I asked him if he needed help with anything or if he had questions concerning his quizzes, but he said since this isn't his first time taking a class session at CIES he doesn't feel like it's too difficult to do the assignments. So, I asked him if he had any particular questions about grammar or if there was a certain subject/area he wants to focus on for improvement. He shook his head no and told me again that he doesn't feel like he exceptionally needs a "tutor" but since he didn't sign up for conversational partner, he feels maybe this would be a good opportunity. So, we both agreed that during these tutoring times, I would be more of an assistance on his speaking/listening by just speaking with him in English. He says when he hangs out with his friends, since they tend to be of the same culture, he doesn't speak much English aside from CIES. By meeting with me, he gets to use English more in the week and he feels that helps him more than if I was to do anything from the book with him. So, I told him okay but if he ever has any questions about anything else he can always ask me. He told me that he was going to Tampa this weekend to take an exam and so, he told me that he feels nervous to drive again because it is going to be a one day trip. I told him to get lots of coffee and make sure to not speed (haha). All in all, I think we got a clear direction of how these sessions are going to go and I'm excited that he knows what he wants out of these sessions!
