Isaac tp#5
Thursday before class, I met with my tutee Jassas. Previously, our lesson consisted pronunciation work, mainly long and short vowels, followed by some basic vocabulary of colors, some common animals, and fruits and veggies. To build off the last work on pronunciation, this session focused around the pronunciation of the minimal pairs /p/ and /b/. I printed off 3 worksheets that we went over, I've noticed Jassas has more issues with pronunciation than some of my younger tutees. This is an issue I noticed while studying in Spain, the older students who had spent much more time in their native language found it difficult to create sounds not native to their language. After ample time spent on pronunciation, I could see Jassas had begun to grow bored with the material. We instead began to discuss cultural comparisons and impressions, we conversed about national relations and the implications of the current situations in the middle east and Ukraine. This material was heavy, but Jassas showed a lot of interest in the conversation and made every effort to voice his opinion on the subject.
