KyungAh TP#15
I met with my child tutee at 6pm on April 2nd. So, I've been giving her American bakery bread every Saturday or Sunday (depending on when I go) as her reward for doing her assignments. And, her interest in bread has made it intrinsically motivating for her to do her work and also, she reads a lot of articles on the topic of bread. Even though these articles may be in English and she may not understand, she is doing extra work to read and understand; today, she had some questions about the article like the word "active cultures" or "pre-heat." Though these are technical terms that may be used in the cooking industry, she is still getting reading practice while reading for enjoyment (extensive and intensive reading!). For today, we did do the workbook pages and then during the break time she had asked me if she could try muffins. I asked her what kind of muffins she'd like to try and she asked if there are any green tea muffins and I told her that here in America, anything green tea flavored is very hard to find. I told her, normally, there are like chocolate chip muffins, blueberry muffin, banana nut muffin, bran muffin, cranberry muffin, etc. She said she wanted to try banana muffin because she loves bananas. So, I told her if she can do these assignments like she has been doing these past several weeks, then I will buy her a banana nut muffin. I'm really wondering when this bread reward will stop because I'm not sure how long it will go. It makes me nervous to not know how long she will be motivated, but I figured as long as she keeps responding then I will keep doing it.
